PSN Game of the Week: Marietta Finds Rhythm In Shutout Victory Over Campbell
For the 2nd week in a row, Marietta quarterback Harrison Bailey (Uncommitted) has shown tremendous progress. The hype surrounding the Freshman quarterback is growing rapidly! After a 5 touchdown pass performance on Friday in a blowout win, you'd understand the hype. Harrison did all of his damage in the 1 st half vs. Campbell, he did not play any in the 2nd half. He went for 290 yards and 5 touchdown passes. On the first play of the game, Bailey connected with Senior Wide Receiver Dewayne Smith (Uncommitted) for a completion of over 70 yards, capped off with an 8-yard touchdown toss from Bailey to Smith. Smith finished with 3 receiving touchdowns on the evening. Bailey's other receiving target Ramel Keyton made plays throughout out the 1st half, catching 2 of Bailey's 5 touchdown passes. Keyton is the County's leader in catches and touchdown, with 650 yards and 7 touchdowns. The Blue Devils also posted is first shutout in over 9 years. The defense was relentless, lead by junior defensive end Azeez Ojulari (Uncommitted) with 13 tackles, 2 sacks and a plethora of quarterback hurries. They allowed only 80 yards of offense the entire game and posted 7 sacks. One of the best performances this season by the Blue Devil defense.
The Campbell Spartans opened up its second half on a positive note, a 99-yard kickoff return for a touchdown by 2018 Athlete Ray Decosey, that was later negated by a penalty flag.
Campbell struggled to find any running room for the majority of the game. The Spartans set themselves up to score, early in the 3rd quarter when quarterback Cameron Smith (Uncommitted) completed a pass to Wide Receiver Marcus Rogers (Uncommitted) for a 32-yard gain, which pushed the ball deep into Blue Devil territory. The Spartans could not take advantage of the long completion and settled for a field goal that was blocked by the Marietta defense. Campbell's defense played a lot better in the 2nd half, forcing 2 fumbles, and had an interception, but just couldn't seem to capitalize off of the Marietta mishaps.
Marietta topped off its stat heaving evening with a late 4th quarter touchdown pass, when Senior QB Christian Harvey (Uncommitted) connected with Senior Tight End Jalar Allen (Uncommitted) on 48-yard touchdown pass. Marietta will get a bye week before opening Region 3 (7A) play against Kennesaw Mountain on October 7th. Campbell will also have a bye week before they began their Region 2 (7A) play against Pebblebrook. Final Score Marietta 49 Campbell 0
