Wheeler Size Too Much For Whitefield, Wildcats 83-60 Over the Wolfpack
On Thursday night the Wheeler Wildcats took on the Whitefield Wolfpack in day three of the Tournament of Champions Holiday Classic National Bracket semi-final. Wheeler would open up the game leading the way throughout the first quarter going up by as many as six but Whitefield’s scrappy play on defense and a few key buckets help the Wolfpack close out the opening period only down two points as the Wildcats led 16-14. The second quarter would open with both teams exchanging basket but Whitefield would get a big three point basket from #32 Dylan Mclean to give them a 19-18 lead with 6:15 to go in the second. Whitefield would extend their lead to 25-20 after #4 Isaiah Heart (29 pts) was fouled on a made three point basket and making the foul shout. Wheeler would regain the lead after being sent to the charity stripe on a few possessions making it a 30-27 game with 2:50 left in the first half.
Whitefield would make it a one point game, 33-32 after Heart was fouled on an inbound play and made both foul shots but back to back baskets by the Wildcats #4 Jordan Usher (25 pts) and #25 Jerry Vaughn would help the Wildcats take a 37-32 lead into halftime. Wheeler would open up the third quarter with an 8-0 run to go up 45-32 forcing Whitefield to use their first timeout with 6:20 remaining in the period. Out of the timeout, Whitefield would get a quick two point bucket but Wheeler would answer back with a thunderous dunk by #23 EJ Montgomery to go up 47-34. By the 3:41 mark of the third quarter, the undersized Wolfpack would find themselves down 55-35 as Wheeler’s size advantage began to cause problems for Whitefield. As the third period would come to an end, Wheeler would be up 66-40 over Whitefield. Whitefield would come out in the fourth quarter scoring the first two buckets of the period forcing the Wildcats to take a timeout. Out of the timeout, Wheeler would continue to dominate Whitefield and go on to defeat the Wolfpack 83-60.
