2 Goal Game For Jesus Pineda As Pace Shuts Out Cedar Grove 3-0
On Thursday, the Pace Academy Knights hosted the Cedar Grove Saints in just the second week of high school soccer action. As the game got underway, almost half of the first half of play would go by before either team would get on the score board. Both teams played well defensively for the first 17 minutes but the Knights would eventually catch the Saints defense sleeping as #5 Jesus Pineda would sneak pass a could of Cedar Grove defenders to get the first of his two goals to give the Knights a 1-0 lead with 23:10 remaining in the first half.
The Saints would appear to have regrouped after the Pace goal as their defense once again would keep the Knights from scoring on several attempts. But Pace would once again get on the score board with 11:23 to go in the first half when #9 would get the header goal to lift the Knights up 2-0 over the Saints. The Knights would get a few more chances to score in the first half but the Saints defense would keep the ball out of the net and go into halftime down 0-2.
In the second half, the Knights would strike again just 6:10 into the half as Pineda would once again find himself in the right spot and score his second goal of the night after the ball ball would deflect off of a Cedar Grove player right into the path of Pineda and Pace would go up 3-0 with 33:49 remaining in the second half. The Saints defense would once again hold their own after the Knight's goal, but offensively, Cedar Grove's struggles continued as they failed to score a goal and would fall to Pace 3-0 as the Knights improve to 2-1 on the early soccer season. Pace will visit Grady on Tuesday.
