Norcross Impressive With Dominating 83-38 Win Over West Forsyth In First Round of State Play


The Norcross Blue Devils hosted the West Forsyth Wolverines on Saturday night in the first round of the Georgia High School Association 7A State Playoffs. Norcross would open up the game with an 8-0 run to force West Forsyth to call timeout with 5:22 to go in the first quarter. Out of the timeout, the Blue Devils’ #5 Sr. Jordan Goldwire would come up with a steal and layup to make it a 10-0 game. The Wolverines would eventually get on the board but back to back dunks by #0 Sr. Rayshaun Hammonds would give Norcross a 14-2 lead forcing West Forsyth to use another timeout with just under four minutes to go in the first. The Blue Devils would then go on a 7-0 run to take a 21-2 lead and force the Wolverines to use yet another timeout with 2:34 to go in the first quarter.

With 1:30 to go, West Forsyth would finally add to their score as they would connect on a 3-point bucket to make it 25-5 game but the Blue Devils would maintain a 27-9 lead as the quarter came to an end. As the second quarter began, West Forsyth would score on back to back 3-point baskets to cut the Norcross lead 29-15 with 6:15 remaining in the first half but Norcross’ #3 So. Kyle Sturdivant would complete a 3-point play after drawing a foul to make it a 32-15 game. The Blue Devils would then get back to back monster dunk baskets by # 10 Jr. Joseph Toppin (10 pts) to give Norcross a 36-15 lead and force West Forsyth to use their second to last timeout of the half with 4:53 to go in the half. As play continued, the Blue Devils would go on an 8-0 run taking a 44-15 lead with 2:27 to go in the first half and would go in to take a 48-17 lead into the locker room as the first half came to an end.

As the second half got underway the Blue Devils would go on a 11-2 run to take a 59-19 lead with 5:01 to go in the third quarter. Unable to stop the Norcross offense, West Forsyth would find themselves down 67-28 as the third quarter would come to an end. With fourth and final quarter underway (6:00 due to score rule), Norcross would start the period with their reserves including #23 Fr. Brandon Boston, who wowed the crowd with a few moves as he is expected to be a future star for the Blue Devils. The talented Blue Devils would go on to close out West by a final score of 83-38. Norcross will go on to face Colquitt County in the second round.
