Lady Bulldogs Shutout Lady Wolverines, Advance to Elite 8 As Decatur Blanks Union Grove 4-0
On Tuesday, the second round of the Georgia High School Association Girls Soccer State playoffs got underway and in Class 5A action, the Decatur Lady Bulldogs hosted the Union Grove Lady Wolverines. The Lady Bulldogs would take an early 1-0 lead when So. #22 Grace Williams would get the assist from Jr. #10 Sarah Grace Tatum to score the goal for Decatur with 37:18 to go in the first half.
As play continued, the Lady Bulldogs would strike again courtesy of Jr. #2 Lia Bodine’s header goal after the ball deflected off the top of the goal and the Lady Bulldogs would take a 2-0 lead with 22:11 remaining in the half.
Decatur’s next goal would come with 15:19 left in the half when Jr. #6 Molly Enloe would get the assist from Fr. #18 Nailah Harping and squeeze past two Wolverine defenders for the goal giving the Lady Bulldogs a 3-0 lead, which they would take into the locker room at halftime. In the second half, the Wolverines would get a couple of good looks but would come up short on a couple attempts to get on the scoreboard.
However, about midway through the half, the Lady Bulldogs would take a 4-0 lead with 21:47 to go in the game when Tatum would score with a right kick. Decatur would go on to win by a final score of 4-0 and advance to the third round of the GHSA Class 5A State playoffs where they will face Whitewater on Friday.
