West 2 TD's, Tigers Outlast Panthers As Douglas County Improves To 5-0 With 30-27 Win Over Langs


On Friday night, action in the match up between Langston Hughes and Douglas County picked up in the second half as the teams combined for 33 second half points in Douglas County's 30-27 win over Langston Hughes. At the start of the game, the Tigers would strike first after Langston Hughes' Caleb Vaughan was picked off by the Douglas County defense on the first play of the game for a pick six and the Tigers would take an early 7-0 lead just seconds into the game. Later in the first, the Tigers would add a field goal to take a 10-0 lead with 5:34 to go in the opening period.

he Panthers would eventually get an offensive spark when they would score off a Vaughan pass to Nae saan Dickerson, and Langston Hughes would trail 10-7 with 3:58 to go in the first quarter. In the second quarter, the Panthers would take the lead after a rushing touchdown by Christian Royalston giving Langston a 14-10 lead with 5:09 to go in the half and that would be the score at the break.

As the second half got underway, the Panthers offense would continue to have momentum in their favor as they would score once again courtesy Royalston's second rushing touchdown as the Panthers would go up 20-10 as they failed the extra point attempt. On the ensuing kickoff, Douglas County's Marquell Stephens would return the kick almost 80 yards, setting the Tigers offense up deep in Panthers territory. With possession of the ball, the Tigers would go on to score off a Uriah West rushing touchdown, making it a 20-17 game.

On the next possession for Douglas County, West would rush for his second touchdown of the game and the Tigers would regain the lead and go up 23-20 after a blocked extra point attempt. Langston Hughes would not be out done however as Royalston would take another Vaughan hand off and rush for the longest touchdown run of the night giving the Panthers a 27-23 lead with :47 to go in the third quarter.

In the fourth quarter, with 2:12 remaining, the Tigers would once again regain the lead after quarterback Marqueese Collins would hit Dariyan Wiley for a 60 yard touchdown and Douglas County would go up 30-27 and would go on to win by that final score.
