Marist Wins Battle of War Eagles With 8-0 Shutout Over Chestatee

On Monday, the Marist War Eagles hosted the Chestatee War Eagles in a match up between two seven loss teams. In the top of the first inning, Marist would send Lexi Van Metre to the mound and she have a strong first inning striking out three of the first four Chestatee batters. In the bottom of the first, Marist would quickly get their bats going as lead off Anna White would connect for a double.

Later in the inning with a runner at second and only one out, Katie Goldberg wiuld launch one deep to left center field for an RBI double and give Marist a 1-0 lead. Two batters later, still only one out and runners at first and third, Allie Bittick would come up with an RBI double of her own and Marist would go up 2-0. Lauren Kim would step to the plate next for Marist and with runners at second and third she would send one down the first base line for an RBI single and Marist would now hold a 3-0 lead.

In the top of the second inning, Van Metre would continue her dominance on the mound. Following a lead off out forced by Goldberg at third base, Van Metre would retire the next two batters and Marist would get their chance to add to their lead and that they would.

In the bottom of the second, Goldberg would connect for her second RBI double of the game giving Marist a 4-0 lead. Later in the inning, Bittick would make good on an RBI single and Marist would now be up 5-0. The War Eagles would go on to score three more runs in the game and pick up the 8-0 victory.
