Westminster's Wallace & Turbes Lead The Wildcats Pack To Region Championship

On Wednesday, the Westminster Wildcats hosted the Georgia High School Association 3A Cross Country Region 5 championship with rivals Pace Academy and Lovett on hand along with Stone Mountain, Redan, and Cedar Grove. In the Boys Varsity 5K, Will Wallace of Westminster and Jack Douglass of Pace Academy would run neck and neck for most of the course.

But in the final leg of the course, Wallace would begin to distance himself from Douglass and go on to take the top spot in a time of 16:14.35. Douglass would finish second in a time of 16:27.10. The Wildcats would also take the third and fourth place spots and win the GHSA 3A Region 5 championship with 23 points.

On the girls side, the Wildcats would dominate, taking the top four spots. But it would be the running of Westminster's Naima Turbes who would put on a cross country clinic, jumping out to an early lead with no racers coming within 100 yards of her after the first loop of the course. Turbes would finish in first in a time of 18:25.97 and teammate Bronte Bacchetta would come in second in a time of 19:26.65. The Lady Wildcats would also take the GHSA 3A Region 5 crown with 16 points. Watch highlights of the race below.
