McIntosh Chiefs Defeats 2 Time Defending Champs, Buford Wolves 3-2 For GHSA 5A Volleyball Championsh
On Saturday, the two time defending champs, the Buford Wolves, faced the McIntosh Chiefs in hopes of winning their third consecutive state championship. The Chiefs would have different plans as they would win the first two sets, 25-21 and 25-23 to put the Wolves in a 2-0 hole.
In sets three and four, the Wolves would show exactly why they were the two time defending champions. In set three, the Wolves would go up by as many as six as they would take a 19-16 lead and go on to win the set 25-20. In set four, the Wolves once again would get out to a big lead as they would go up 20-13 but the Chiefs would battle back to get withing two at 21-19.
Buford would withstand the Chiefs' attempt to come back and win the set 25-22. In the final and deciding set, after trailing 5-4, the Chiefs would tie things up to make it 5-5. As the set continued, the Chiefs would go up 11-7 and close out the set 15-10 to knock off the two time defending champs for the GHSA 5A state Championship. Watch highlights below.
