Wheeler Withstands Duluth Late Run For 59-57 Win In Big South Shootout Finale
Going into their fifth game in seven days, the Wheeler Wildcats faced the Duluth Wildcats in the finale of the Big South Shootout hosted by Duluth. Wheeler showed no signs of fatigue in the early going of the contest despite closing out the first quarter tied up 13-13 with Duluth.
In the second quarter, Wheeler would go on an 8-0 run and take a 20-13 lead and once again showing no signs of wear and tear after their run in the Tournament of Champions Holiday Classic just days before. Duluth however would put Wheeler on their heels and make a run of their own in the fourth quarter and after Wheeler had taken a 45-36 lead early in the fourth quarter, Duluth would outscore Wheeler 21-10 and take a 57-55 lead late in the fourth.
After tying the contest up at 57-57, Wheeler would regain the lead thanks to a EJ Montgomery dunk and go up 59-57, which would be the final score. Montgomery would finish with 25 points while teammate Austin Johnson would finish with 20 points. Watch highlights from the game below now!
