Upson-Lee 63-0, Win Second Straight GHSA 4A Championship With 70-54 Win Over St Pius
On the final day of the Georgia High School Association basketball state championships, the defending GHSA 4A Boys champions, the Upson-Lee Knights faced the St. Pius Golden Lions. In the opening quarter, the Knights would find themselves trailing 9-4 but would outscore the Lions 9-3 to take a 13-12 lead to end the opening period.
In the second quarter, the Lions would force a couple of Upson-Lee turnovers which would lead to seven unanswered points giving the Lions a 19-13 lead. As the quarter continued, the Knights would tie the game up at 23-23 thanks to a two point basket by Jarrett Adderton but the Lions would go on a 10-2 run to take a 33-25 lead.
After the Lion's run, the Knights would score six unanswered points and trail 33-32 at the half. In the third quarter, with a 42-38 lead, two big blocks by Travon Walker would seem to energize the Knights' offense as they would never relinquish the lead from that point and go on to win by a final score of 70-54. Upson-Lee's Tavias Fagan led all players with 21 points. Watch highlights from the game below now!
