Westminster Secure GHSA 1A-5A Area 2 Number One Seed With 10-6 Win Over Pace Academy
On Friday, the Pace Academy Knights hosted their rival, the Westminster Wildcats, in a winner take all region match up. At stake, the Georgia High School Association 1A-5A Area 2 number one seed. A win by either team would lock them into the top region spot, so both teams would have to give it their all and that's exactly what Westminster would do.
The Wildcats would waste no time making a statement jumping out to a 6-1 lead as the opening period came to an end and John O Izlar and Luke Jones would combine for five of those six goals. The Wildcats would continue to add to their lead and at the start of the third period, would have an 8-1 lead over the Knights.
However, Pace, who came from behind for the win over Lovett a week ago, began to get their offense going on all cylinders scoring back to back goals to make it an 8-3 game in favor of the Wildcats. In fourth, down 9-3, the Knights would once again score back to back goals to cut the lead down to 9-5 with less than eight minute to go in the game but the Wildcats defense made it difficult for the Pace offense to crank out any more points outside of a late goal by Zack Leven to make it a 10-6 game which would also be the final score.
Both Jones and Izlar would finish with four goals a piece for the Wildcats as they claimed first place in the GHSA 1A-5A Area 2 standings. Watch highlights from the game below now!
