Woodward Tops Mary Persons 2-1, Advances To Third Round of GHSA 4A Playoffs

In the second round of the Georgia High School Association Class 4A girls soccer state playoffs, the Woodward Academy War Eagles hosted the Mary Persons Bulldogs. Early on in the contest both teams would get a few shots on goal that would come up short including Woodward's Mary Lecesne shot attempt that bounce off the top of the goal.

However, the Bulldogs eventually get on the board first after forward Abbie Davis would get out on a fast break and take a shot and come up with the goal giving Mary Persons a 1-0 lead. Minutes later, the War Eagles were not to be out done as Sierra Bagwell's shot would sale and graze the bottom of the upper bar of the goal and find its way into the net tying up the game at 1-1.

In the second half, the War Eagles' offense would get a little more aggressive, orchestrating several shots on goal, but sophomore, Maddy Cronin but lift Woodward to a 2-1 lead and the Bulldogs would not be able to answer back as the War Eagles picked up the victory to advance to the third round of the GHSA 4A state playoffs.
