Parkview Caps One Loss Season With 2-0 Win Over Milton For GHSA 7A Title
It has been five years since the Parkview girls soccer team brought home a Georgia High School Association state championship and after finishing the regular season with only one loss, the Panthers looked poised to capture the 2018 title as they faced a Milton Eagles team that had only suffered two regular season losses.
In the first half of the contest, the Parkview offense would get aggressive early on as they would get several shots on goal, most by sophomore Nieva Gaither, but would not be able to score on any of their attempts. The game would remain scoreless throughout the first half. However, at the start of the second half, only three minutes into the period, Gaither would go on the attack once again and this time would prevail as the Panthers would take a 1-0 lead.
Later in the contest, the Eagles would look to tie things up when Payton Aussin would take a shot, only to be denied by Parkview's Sara Halihodzic and the Panthers would maintain their 1-0 lead.
But as the game continued and the clock ticked to the 13:00 mark, Tesfanesh McDonald would find herself driving and in an attempt to stop Gaither, Milton goal keeper rushed for the save but was not able to come up with the deflection and Gaither would manage to tap the ball in for the score and give Parkview a 2-0 lead. The Panthers would go on to win by that final score and claim the GHSA 7A girls soccer state championship. Watch highlights from the game below now!
