ATL Express Nab First Tournament Title With 77-70 Win Over Atlanta Celtics In Adidas Atlanta Memoria
On the final day of play of the Adidas Atlanta Memorial Day Classic, two of Atlanta's premier travel basketball teams faced off in the gold bracket championship of the tournament. With both teams featuring some of Georgia's top prospects, the Atlanta Celtics and the ATL Xpress would go head to head to see who would bring home the hardware.
In the first half, Marcus Watson (Buford HS) would have the hot hand early for the Celtics, scoring nine of their first 11 points as the Celtics took an 11-3 lead. The Xpress would manage to close the gap and cut the Celtics lead to 13-11 but the Watson and crew would go on to close out the first half with 34-27 lead. In the second half, Anthony Edward (Holy Spirit) would lead the Xpress on a run of their own as they would eventually tie the game at 55-55 and eventually take their first lead after an Edwards basket would put the Xpress up 61-59.
After the Celtics would tie the game 61-61, off a Rodeny Howard (Centennial HS) dunk, Edwards, who finished with 34 points, and the Xpress would go on to close out with a 16-9 run to pick up the 77-70 win for the championship of the Adidas Atlanta Memorial Day Classic gold bracket.
