Earlier this week, two more states joined the small list of those that have state wide girls wrestling tournaments. First, on Tuesday, Missouri approved a girls wrestling tournament for the 2019 season. There were at least 108 schools in Missouri that had at least one girl on their wrestling team last year and despite the addition of the tournament, girls will still wrestle with the boys during dual meets. "With the amount of girls participating in the sport increasing, having a separate MSHSAA championship for girls has been on the horizon," Missouri State High School Activities Association communications director Jason West told the Daily News. On Wednesday, Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association announced that they too would be adding a state wide all girls tournament for the end of the season. According to MIAA, prior to the sectional tournament, girls will be given the choice of whether they want to wrestle in the girls tournament or the traditional mixed gender tournament.
