Hornets Swarming Defense Helps Lift Hapeville To 24-0 Win Over Douglass, Remain Undefeated
In Friday night lights high school football action in Atlanta, the defending Georgia High School Association Class 2A state champions, the Hapeville Hornets took on the Douglass Astros. The Hornets came into the night 4-0 overall and 2-0 in the GHSA 2A Region 6 standings, while the Astros, who are off to their best start in recent school history, came into the night 5-0 overall and 3-0 in 2A Region 6.
As the game got underway, the Hornets would strike first as they would score on their opening possession thanks to a scramble for a touchdown by Jeremy Stephens and Hapeville would take a 7-0 lead in the first quarter. After the Hornets would tack on a field goal later in the first quarter to take a 10-0 lead, both defenses would hold their on the remainder of the first half as neither offense would produce any points.
All that would change in the second half for Hapeville as Stephens would score once again to give the Hornets a 17-0 lead. In the fourth quarter, with plenty of time left in the game, the Astros looked to cut the Hornets lead and finally get on the score board but a sack of Deandre Watson on a fourth and long by the Hornets would give possession back to Hapeville. On the ensuing possession, the Hornets would score on another quarterback keeper, but this time Jordan Slocum would get the six and Hapeville would go on to win by a final of 24-0.
