Gordon Lee's Gracie O'Neal Wins GHSA 1A Public Cross Country Championship, Sets Meet Record
On the final day of the Georgia High School Association Country State Championships, the Class 1A Public boys and girls divisions closed out the day. In the boys division, Greene County's Leo Lopez would jump out in front of the pack and maintain his lead throughout the entire meet. Lopez hit the two mile mark in a time of 11:05 and would go on to win the race in a time of 17:20.
Commerce's Brandon Martin would take second in a time of 18:03 and Georgia Military College's Colin McCabe would take third in a time of 18:39. In the girls division, Gracie O'Neal of Gordon Lee would take the early lead and dominate throughout the entire race as she would build up over a 200 meter lead over Brett Landing of Jenkins County by the midway point of the race.
O'Neal would go on to finish taking first in a time of 20:56 and set a meet record for longest time between first and second place finishes as Landing would finish a 1:54 behind O'Neal and edge out Paige White of Telfair. Landing would finish in a time of 22:50.33 while White would finish in a time of 22:50.66. White's Telfair would win the girls division state title with 39 points and Georgia Military College would take the championship on the boys side with 70 points.
