Spartans Outlast Blue Devils As Campbell Escapes With 60-58 Win Over Tift County

In high school hoops action, the Campbell Spartans took on the Tift County Blue Devils in the Atlanta Hawks Naismith Tip Off Classic. Early on in the contest, the Spartans would take the early lead and maintain it throughout the entire first half, going up by as many as 10 points.

As the second half of the game got underway, the Blue Devils would outscore the Spartans 23-8 in the third quarter and take their first lead of the night during that period. and take a 45-40 lead into the fourth quarter. Down the stretch, the Campbell's Terrell Burden (28 points) would come up big when he would get fouled on a three point basket. He would connect on the plus one and the Spartans would regain the lead, 48-47.

Later in the fourth, the Blue Devils would find themselves trailing 54-51 and Tift's Marquavious Johnson (18 points) would knock down a much needed three point basket to tie the game. Later, tied up 58-58 with nine seconds to go in the game, Campbell's Burden would drive to the basket and score at the buzzer to give the Spartans the 60-58 win.
