Mustangs Hold Off Hawks As Meadowcreek Defeats Heritage 51-45, Advances To Holiday Classic Champions

As the annual Tournament of Champions Holiday Classic continued on Friday, the defending Georgia High School Association Class 7A state champions, the Meadowcreek Mustangs took on the Heritage Hawks in a semi-final match up of the Peach division of the tournament.

The game had a slow start as both teams stuggled offensively in the first quarter as the period would come to an end with the Mustangs up 5-3. In the second quarter, the pace would pick up a little as the Hawks would outscore the Mustangs 15-12 in the period and hold a 18-17 lead at the half. In the third quarter, the Mustangs would find themselves trailing 21-17 but would go on a 7-0 run to take a 24-21 lead.

At the end of the third, Meadowcreek would hold a 30-29 lead over Heritage. The contest would remain close throughout most of the fourth quarter, including several ties, but Meadowcreek's Jamir Chaplin (21 points) would six key points down the stretch to help the Mustangs pick up the 51-45 win and advance to the championship game of the Peach Division in the annual holiday classic.
