Douglass Defeats Hapeville 60-54, Keeps Pace With Therrell In GHSA 2A Region 6 Standings
On Friday, the Douglass Astros hosted the Hapeville Hornets to a key Georgia High School Association Class 2A Region 6 match up. The Astros came into the night three games behind the Therrell Panthers in the GHSA 2A region 6 standings and need to pick up a win over Hapeville in order to gain some ground or at least keep pace with the Panthers.
Early on in the contest, the Hornets would maintain a small lead throughout most of the first period, but late in the first quarter, after trailing 9-7, the Astros would go on a 7-2 run to take an 14-11 lead at the end of the first quarter. In the second quarter, Douglass' Jamarious Pledger (20 points) would heat up and lead the Astros to a 30-24 halftime lead.
Pledger's hot hand continued into the third quarter as Douglass took a 50-35 lead to end the third quarter. in the fourth quarter, the Hornets would make a run and manage to cut the Astros lead down to 57-54, but that would be the closest the Hapeville would get as they would fall 60-57 to the Astros.
