Wildcats Sweep Season Series As Lovejoy Defeats Forest Park 55-50


On Saturday, the Lovejoy Wildcats girls basketball team hosted their region rival, the Forest Park Panthers in the two team's final regular season game. The Wildcats came into the game leading the Georgia High School Association Class 6A Region 4 standings at 15-0 while the Panthers came in at 14-1, with their only region loss coming at the hands of the Wildcats in December when Lovejoy defeated Forest Park 58-56 in overtime.

As Saturday's game got underway, the Panthers would open up with a 13-4 run and close out the first quarter with a 17-8 lead. In the second quarter, the Wildcats would get withing five points when they trailed 19-14 after back to back three point baskets by Genesis Bryant and Anaya Boyd but Forest Park would outscore Lovejoy 7-4 down the stretch of the second quarter and take a 26-18 lead into the locker room at the half.

In the third quarter, Boyd and Bryant would continue to knock down three point baskets and eventually giving the Wildcats their first lead when they went up 32-31 after a Boyd three pointer. In the fourth quarter, the lead would change several times between the two teams but after being down 40-48 to the Panthers, a 8-2 run would give Lovejoy a 46-42 lead which they would never relinquish as they would get the 55-50 win.
