First State Title For Bulldogs As Tri Cities Defeats Tucker 46-43 For GHSA 6A Championship


On the final day of the Georgia High School Association basketball state championships, the Tucker Tigers boys basketball team and the Tri Cities Bulldogs faced off in the Class 6A title game.

As the game got underway, the Bulldogs would outscore the Tigers 9-6 in the first quarter to take the lead going into the second quarter. In the second quarter, the Tigers would outscore Tri Cities 16-9 to take a 22-18 lead into the locker room at the half.

Tucker would maintain the lead throughout the third quarter, outscoring Tri Cities 15-12 to hold a 37-30 lead going into the final period of the game. In the fourth quarter, Tri Cities would get a big boost out of Da'Marcus Johnson (13 pts), who hit a clutch three point basket to tie the game with 1:08 to go in the game.

Then the Bulldogs defense would come up with a key steal that would lead to a Demetrius Rives lay up to give Tri Cities a 43-41 lead with :14 to go in the game. On the Tigers ensuing possession, Tuckers' Nick Watson would get fouled driving baseline and get sent to the charity stripe for two free throws which he would connect on both and tie the game 43-43 with :06 remaining.

After the made free throws, Tri Cities would inbound the ball to Johnson who would bring the ball up and drain a three point basket from deep as time expired giving the Bulldogs the 46-43 win and their first state title in school history. Watch highlights from the game below now!
