Maynard Jackson Jaguars Girls Track Repeat As Region Champs, Grady Knights Take Boys Region Title
On Thursday, the Georgia High School Association Class 5A track and field region 6 championship resumed with finals action. The defending region champs, the Maynard Jackson Jaguars got off to a great start as their girls 4x100M dash relay team came in first in a time of 46.60. On the boys side of the 4x100M dash relay, Jackson Sexton helped propel the Grady Knights to a first place finish as they edged out the Carver Panther in a time of 41.95 while Carver place at 41.99.
Sexton later captured the boys 400M dash region title in a time of 48-70 which place in fourth fastest in the state in class 5A. In the girls 100M dash, fans were treated to a very exciting race as Maynard Jackson's Queen Couch and North Springs' Saran Kouyeth were neck and neck the entire way down the track.
Couch would have a slight lead as the two approached the finish line but a late lean by Kouyeth would give her the 11.93 win as Couch placed at 11.96. Team region championships would go to the Grady Knights with 136 points and Maynard Jackson taking second with 118 points. However, on the girls side, the Maynard Jackson Jaguars would repeat as region champs with 181 points. Riverwood would place second with 147 points. See complete meet results here.
