8-7 Overtime Win Helps Walton Raiders Dethrone Lambert Longhorns For 2019 GHSA 6A-7A Title
On Saturday, the Georgia High School Association lacrosse state championships took place and in 6A-7A action, the defending champions, the Lambert Longhorns, faced the Walton Raiders. The Longhorns would take an early 2-0 lead but the Raiders would respond with back to back goals to tie up the game 2-2 heading into the second quarter.
The two teams would trade goals down the stretch of the second quarter keeping the game tied up 4-4 at the half. In the third quarter, the Raiders would gain a little momentum scoring three straight goals to take a 7-4 lead. Lambert would answer back with three straight goals of their own, including two by Benny O'Rourk with less than thirty seconds to go in regulations, sending the game into overtime.
In the sudden death overtime period, Walton would gain possession out of the face off and Tate Harran would strike for the score as the Raiders picked up the win to claim the 2019 GHSA 6A-7A state championship. Watch highlights from the game below now!
