Kaliyah Smith's 15 K's Leads Sandy Creek To 8-2 Season Opener Win Over Woodward Academy
The high school softball season officially got underway in Georgia with several teams around the state participating in their first games of the season, including the Woodward War Eagles and the Sandy Creek Patriots who faced off at Woodward Academy in College Park, Georgia.
The game featured a great pitching performance by both team's starting pitchers as MeKenzie Morris (Woodward) and Kaliyah Smith (Sandy Creek) would each strike out 10 batters through five innings despite the Patriots maintaining a 2-1 lead. However, in the top of the sixth inning, the Patriots' offense would hit up as they would score five runs in the inning to take a 6-2 lead.
Meanwhile, on the mound for the Patriots, Smith would contiunie to dominate as she would pitch down the stretch to close out the game with 15 strikeouts, allowing two runs as Sandy Creek would pick up the 8-2 win in their season opener on the road.
