Mashburn, Patino Connection Part Two As Jr. Commits To Minnesota Gophers

On Monday, the son of NBA Legend, Jamal Mashburn, Jamal Mashburn Jr. announced his commitment to the University of Minnesota. “It’s a great opportunity there for me to flourish and for me to win which is a big part of my character and who I am,” Mashburn, a 4-star recruit, told 247Sports about his decision. The younger Mashburn’s choice to join the Golden Gophers makes for the second time around that the college ranks will have a Mashburn, Patino connection as Minnesota is coached by Richard Patino who is the son of former Kentucky coach, Rick Patino. Mashburn Jr. added that although the younger Patino being head coach of the Gophers played a factor in his decision, it was not a big factor saying, “at the end of the day, Richard is recruiting me, he’s not recruiting my father, who already played in the NBA.” Mashburn Jr. is entering his final season of high school basketball with Brewster Academy out of New Hampshire.
