Ashley Sechrest Wins Third Cross Country Region Title, Cole Heron Claims First In GHSA 6A Region 7 C
On Tuesday, the rain cleared out just in time as the Georgia High School Association Class 7A Region 7 cross country championships took place at Webb Bridge Park in Alpharetta, Georgia. It would be a historic day for both Ashley Sechrest of Cambridge High School on the girls' side and Cole Heron of Pope High School on the boys side.
As the girls race got underway, several Dunwoody runners would lead the race early on but the defending region champion, Sechrest would be pacing not far behind and as the race continued, Sechrest would push to the front of the pack, leading the way just over a mile into the course.
Sechrest would only extend the distance between herself and the rest of the runners as she would go on to cross the finish line with a first place time of 19:09 to claim her third region championship. Over to the boys side, coming off a record breaking week in which he broke his school record for the boys 5K, Cole Heron would set a personal goal winning his first region championship in a time of 16:36. Last year, Heron finished ninth in the region run. Watch highlights from the meet below now!
