Lions Back To GHSA 4A Final Four As Luella Eliminates Sandy Creek With 66-48 Win
On Tuesday, the Georgia High School Association basketball state playoffs resumed and in girls class 4A elite 8 action, the Luella Lions hosted the short handed Sandy Creek Patriots. Sandy Creek had been playing the season with only six to seven players but up until Tuesday, that had not been a problem for the Patriots.
However, in Tuesday's match up with Luella, the Lion's were able to take advantage of the Patriot's lack of depth on the bench going on a 9-2 run after falling 4-3 early. After the run, the Lion's would lead 12-6 and would not allow Sandy Creek to get with six points through the end of the opening period.
With scoring contributions from several players including Cam Berry, Keely Brown, and Ari Dyson, the Lion's would extend their lead to 10 points by half time as they would be up 35-25 at the end of the second quarter. In the second half, Luella would gain more momentum in route to a 66-48 win to advance to the GHSA Class 4A final four for the second year in a row. Watch highlights from the game below now!
