Westlake Girls Hoops, Buford Baseball, Grayson Football Among Top 100 Teams To Watch


On Monday, Maxpreps released its list of top 100 high school sports teams to watch for the 2020-2021 season. The Westlake Lions girls basketball team, the Buford Wolves baseball team and the Grayson Rams football team were among those teams listed. The Lions are coming off winning their third straight Georgia High School association state title and will be bring back 12 players from last season’s roster including Raven Johnson, Ta’Niya Latson, Brianna Turnage and Olympia Chaney. The Grayson Rams are considered one of the top contenders to win the GHSA Class 7A football title this upcoming season largely in part due to the amount of division I recruits they have including, wide receiver Daejon Reynolds (Florida), Phil Mahfah (Clemson), and Carlos Del Rio (Florida). The Rams six D1 commits in total that are listed in Rivals Georgia Top 100 of 2021. Lastly, the Buford Wolves baseball team makes the list and two of the best pitchers from the class of 2022, help play a role in making them a team to watch. The Wolves advanced to the GHSA 5A state championship game in 2019, where they fell to Ola, and were considered a heavy favorite to returning to the title game this season, which was cut short due to the COVID-19. The Wolves were 9-2 overall at the time of the shutdown.
