Dekalb And Bibb Counties Suspending Athletic Competitions
The list of Georgia High School Association member schools suspending athletic activity due to COVID-19 continues to grow. Following Fulton County Schools Thursday announcement that all fall sports competitions would be delayed until September 14, shortly afterwards, Bibb County School District, just south of the Atlanta Metro, suspended all sports competitions indefinitely and that schools would start with virtual-only learning on September 8. Bibb County has six member schools within GHSA which include Westside, Northeast, Rutland, Central, Howard and Southwest. On Friday, Dekalb County Athletics, the third largest school system in the state announced that they would be suspending athletic activity until the end of September. In both Bibb and Dekalb, teams will be able to continue with conditioning during this time. Dekalb County’s Tucker High School was scheduled to kick off their season in the annual Corky Kell Classic against Dacula but now that game is up in the air with Dekalb’s new mandate on athletics. The CKC has already dealt with several changes due to COVID-19 including venue changes and replacing teams.
