Alpharetta kicks off title defense with 7-0 weekend
As the 2024 Georgia High School Association volleyball season has gotten underway, the Alpharetta Raiders have gotten their title defenses underway and are off to a great start after going 7-0 over the weekend as they participated in the Sequoyah Classic.
Having faced Northgate, Calhoun, Etowah, Norcross, River Ridge and Walton over the course of two days, the Raiders did not drop a set and was in control of most of their matches, however did show that with the season just getting started and having graduated a few key players from last year’s title winning team and now under the direction of head coach, Marshall King, there are a few things they will have to work on.
“We have a lot of new personnel on this team and so this is really our first opportunity this weekend to kind of see what we’ve put in practice and how it’s come out to play on the court,” King said after the Raiders had to battle back in set two against River Ridge. “We found out we’re not quite where we thought we were yet,” King said, adding that they were able to learn about themselves in the match.
“We feel like we know our bench a little better after the second set and look forward to continuing to have a good season,” King said as he shared his thoughts on the adjustments the Raiders had to make in the second set against River Ridge.
And now with their opening weekend ending successfully, King believes that as the Raiders continue their title defense, “good teamwork, communication, working together as a team and staying focused,” will help keep Alpharetta on track to win a second consecutive title.
