B.E.S.T. Academy Eagles "Establishing Identity" For 2022 Season

“I couldn’t ask for a better situation”. Those were the words of B.E.S.T. Academy Eagles football team head coach, Bernard Goodrum, who is in his first season as coach of the Eagles. With the start of the 2022 season just weeks away, Goodrum says things have been going well over the summer in preparation for year one under his direction. “Summer’s been great,” Goodrum said, crediting former head coach, Joshua Moore, now the school’s athletic director, for being helpful in his transition. “He’s been amazing, guiding me through, really helping me with everything we’ve been doing here”.
Goodrum would go on to say that the work his players have been putting in over the summer have him feeling optimistic about how well the team will perform this season. “I think we’ve established identity on offense and on defense, special teams as well so I feel really good going into the season. I feel really good about what we have going on,” Goodrum said of his thoughts on what he and his staff have seen of their players throughout the summer. And with the school year starting next week for the Eagles, Goodrum says he expects his players to keep their “focus we had during the summer time and same commitment and all the same attention to detail being able to improve every week as we get an opportunity to go out”.
Goodrum would also praise several of the Eagles players for how they have stepped up as leaders and been impactful in helping him and his staff with establishing culture. “It’s been awesome, it’s been different for really everybody so we’ve had new people emerge as leaders”, to which Goodrum added that players have been doing a great job of leading by example. The Eagles will open up the 2022 season on August 19 when they take on Greene County.
