Campbell Snaps Two Game Skid With 10-0 Win Over McEachern
On Friday, the Campbell Spartans girls soccer team hosted the McEachern Indians in a region match up as the Spartans looked to bounce back from having their 10 game win streak snapped by two straight loses. The Spartans went into attack mode early on in the first half and after McEachern goalie Emma Larson successfully stopped Campbell's first two shots on goal, the Spartans would eventually connect for six goals to take a 6-0 lead by the half.
In the second half, the Spartans continued to control the field not allowing the Indians any shots on goal and would add four more goals of their own to take a 10-0 lead and the match would be called midway through the second half giving Campbell the win to end their two game losing streak. Following the game, Campbell head coach Cory Barron said it was important for the girls to respond to the two straight losses with the win they way they did on Friday. "You know, after those two disappointing loses, tonight was us to prove to ourselves that we are the team that we know we are and I'm proud of the girls for getting 10 goals in less than 80 minutes," Barron stated.
Barron went on to say that the team still has work to be done and he noted that they have struggled with keeping their level of play up throughout an entire match, but he felt they were able to do so on Friday against McEachern. "It takes all 10 players on the field and our movement off the ball made it easy for the girl with the ball to make easy passes and find space. We worked well as a team tonight. No one was goal hungry," Barron added. As for goals, Lailah Stewart led they way for the Spartans with three goals while Asia Dabney and Gabby West each had two goals.
