Cara Joyce Nabs Another Win In Senior Season, Tops At Wesleyan Invitational
On Saturday, the Wesleyan Wolves cross country team hosted their annual invitational featuring several teams from around the Atlanta metro area including Atlanta International School with 2020 Georgia High School Association Class 1A Private runner up Cara Joyce on hand. The girls 5K would kick off the morning and Joyce, won the 2020 GHSA 1A Private 800M and 1600M runs during the track and field season, would find herself up front of the pack along with Hebron Christian’s Ellie Brewer, as the two runners are very familiar with each other. Joyce and Brewer would remain neck and neck throughout most of the course until Joyce would distance herself heading into the final 100 plus meters to finish first in a time of 20:17. Brewer would take second in a time of 20:23.
Following the run, Joyce said that being familiar with Brewer and her good finishes, her goal was to “stick” with her because she believed that Brewer would “push the pace and at the end, I happened to have something left to finish with so it was an amazing race and I was so lucky to have someone like Ellie to run with,” Joyce said of her finish. Joyce, class of 2022, has garnered the attention of colleges and universities throughout the country and says that her final high school year will be “about having fun,” and she is “excited to finish with a bang and whatever happens, happens. It’s going to be a sad ending, but it’s an amazing chapter to be closing and I’m going to be opening a new chapter on the collegiate level and I’m really excited for it.”
