Chattahoochee Defeats Riverwood 13-1 To Complete Season Series Sweep
On Wednesday the Riverwood Raiders hosted the Chattahoochee Cougars in the second half of a back to back and the second and final game of the season series between the two. The Cougars took game one on Tuesday by a final of 13-4 and on Wednesday, 13 was the lucky number once again as Chattahoochee would defeat the Raiders 13-1 to complete the season series sweep of Riverwood. Overall, the Cougars got a pretty good outing from pitchers Natalie Simes, who finished with five strikeouts allowing just two hits and four walks. Offensively, Chattahoochee took advantage of runners in scoring position with multiple batters producing RBI’s including Julia Schott, who went 2-3 with two runs batted in.
Although the Cougars have been eliminated from playoff contention, Chattahoochee head coach Jeff Aiken yes the back to back wins gives his young team a chance to close out the season with some momentum and build confidence heading into the offseason and preparing for 2022. “I think it’s really important for these girls to get their confidence. We’re a young team and we only have one senior, so it’s good to get the confidence for next year,” Aiken said of the back to back wins. And despite the Cougars being a young team, Aiken says he was impressed throughout the season on how many of them stepped up and did well when needed. “We’ve got 14 girls and there are a lot of interchangeable pieces. So if one girl is struggling a little bit, we’ll throw somebody else in there and it’s been a great team effort,” Aiken said.
