Collins Hill Tops Archer 71-56, Advances To Deep South Classic Championship Game

On Tuesday, the Collins Hill Lady Eagles basketball team faced the Archer Lady Tigers in a semifinal match up of the Deep South Classic at Parkview High School. Both teams would get off to a slow and sluggish start in the opening quarter, which would end with Archer leading 10-9, but in the second quarter, the Eagles would turn up theire defensive intensity that would lead to several points off turnovers, and they would take a 26-24 lead into the locker room at the half. The Eagles would continue to turn up the heat defensively in the second half of the game as they would go on to pick up the 71-56 win to advance to the tournament's championship game, where they will face Brookwood. Following the win, Collins Hill head coach, Brian Harmon, said that it was the decision to press the Tigers throughout the game that helped them turn things around after their slow start in the first quarter. "Normally, we're a pressing team and this year I haven't been pressing," Harmon stated, adding "but I decided to go back to the press against Archer." Harmon also said that he told the girls he believed they were "a little bit faster" than Archer and that although he knew the Tigers would be "scrappy", he believed they were the faster team and encouraged his players to pick the tempo up.
