"Defensive Effort" Leads Pebblebrook To Shutdown Win Over South Cobb

Pebblebrook (white jerseys) prepares to defend South Cobb out of timeout

On Wednesday, the Pebblebrook Falcons girls basketball team was back on their home court for the first time since mid-November, when they picked up their first loss of the season and suffered three straight losses. Over the weekend, the Falcons snapped their losing streak with a dominating win against Loganville and looked to make it two straight when they hosted the South Cobb Eagles on Wednesday.

The Falcons quickly let their defensive presence be felt as they opened the first quarter on a 9-2 run that included multiple steals and a blocked shot, all in which they would turn into points. The Pebblebrook smothering defense caused problems for the Eagles all throughout the remainder of the game as the Falcons would go on to pick up a 57-7 win. Pebblebrook’s Nia Morgan led all scorers with 18 points, scoring 14 in the first half. She would also account for several of the Falcons’ steals.

“We try to make defense our starting every game. That’s the catalyst that’s going to get us going,” Pebblebrook head coach, Tina Hadley said following the Falcons win. “That’s what we stress in every practice, defensive effort,” Hadley added. While the Falcons garnered majority of their points off of South Cobb turnovers, Hadley said that when her team did get into offensive sets, she was impressed by how well they move the ball. “I like to see a lot of ball movement, a lot of passes and then a nice open shot,” Hadley said.
