Douglas County Hand Alexander Crucial 72-50 Loss, Tiger's Omarion Smith 21 Points, 12 Rebounds

On Friday, the Douglas County Tigers hosted the Alexander Cougars in a region match up that had more importance for the Cougars as Douglas County had already locked up the number seed for their upcoming region tournament. Alexander came into the night 7-4 in the region standings, in second place but only a game ahead of Paulding County and Rome, who they will face next week, in the region standings so a win tonight would allow them to remain the number two team in the region. The Cougars were able to keep things close early in the first quarter, however the Tigers would quickly settle in and begin to pull away and close out the opening quarter with a 21-7 lead. Lead by Omarion Smith (21 points, 12 rebounds, and five blocks) and Omari Fonteno (19 points), the Tigers would increase their lead to 20 points by half tie as they led 37-17. Douglas county would go on to win by a final of 72-50. Because of the loss and Rome defeating Paulding County, Alexander slips to the number three position in the standings.
