The 2022 Georgia High School Association flag football season has gotten underway and the Dunwoody Wildcats hosted the St. Pius X Golden Lions and Berkmar Patriots for their first two games of the season. St. Pius and Berkmar would face off against one another first and the Golden Lions would cruise to a 19-0 win.

The second match up of the evening would feature host, Dunwoody, taking on the Golden Lions. The Wildcats showed up defensively early as the opening St. Pius drive would result in an interception as Dunwoody’s Lilly McSorley would pick off St. Pius quarterback, Charlotte Lopp. Unable to convert the turnover into points, the Wildcats would be forced to punt the ball back to the Golden Lions.

The Golden Lions would find some daylight on the ensuing possession as Lopp would take the direct snap and break through the Dunwoody defense for a 45 yard touchdown run helping St. Pius take a 7-0 lead. The Wildcats would respond with a touchdown of their own on the ensuing possession, but would fail on the extra point attempt and trailed 7-6.

In the second half, both defenses stepped up forcing each team into punting situations, however with about seven minutes to go in the game, the Wildcats put together a positive drive in which they found themselves in the red zone, but on a fourth down conversion attempt, the Golden Lions would sack Lindsey Parks and take over on downs.

During the ensuing St. Pius drive, Dunwoody appeared to stop the Golden Lions on a third down conversion attempt, but a roughing the passer call against the Wildcats would keep the drive alive for St. Pius and they would be able to run the clock out and pick up the 7-6 win.

The Wildcats would bounce back in the final game of the night as they would defeat Berkmar 20-0. Dunwoody jumped out to 14-0 lead in the first half and as the Patriots offense struggled to put together any long drives, Dunwoody would add a second half touchdown in route to the win.
