After having their 11 game losing streak snapped by Carrollton, the East Coweta Indians having looking to regain momentum heading into the final stretch of the season and hosted the Starr's Mill Panthers and McIntosh Chiefs in a double-header on Monday.
Looking for their second straight win as they faced the Panthers first, the Indians would struggle to manufacture runs as they lost game one by a final of 10-2, however would get back in the win column after they defeated McIntosh 8-5 in game two.
"Game one, we kind of got hit in the mouth," Starr's Mill assistant coach, Mark Bowles said following the game two win, praising Starr's Mill for their performance in the first game of the day, however credited the Indians for their efforts in game two which led to a victory. "We faced adversity, we shook it off and found a way to win the next one," Bowles said.
The Indians, who will have the remainder of the week off for spring break, will close out the regular season with a three game series against region opponent, Douglas County and then begin to prepare for postseason play and Bowles believes the time off is coming at the right time to help the team get prepared.
"Right now, I think the big thing is getting some rest to be honest with you. It's a long season, it's a grind and we'll need to focus on grinding out at bats and the pitchers executing strike one. That will put us in some good situations come playoff time if we can do those things," Bowles added.
