Final GHSA Region Alignments For 2022-2024 Seasons Released
On Tuesday, the Georgia High School Association finalized the new region alignments for the 2022-2024 seasons which also reflect the new classifications for some schools as the new multiplier system has also been implied. And when it comes to football, notable changes include higher classifications for Buford, Westlake and Carrollton, all jumping up from 6A to 7A and St. Pius, Woodward, Blessed Trinity, and Marist all making the jump to 6A.
As for new match ups we’ll see over the next few seasons as a result of the new region alignments, three time defending champs, Buford will face off against 2021 champs, Collins Hill as they are now both in Region 8 of 7A along with Mill Creek, Dacula, Mountain View, and Central Gwinnett. Carrollton and Westlake, along with Pebblebrook, East Coweta and Campbell will make up Region 5 of 7A, renewing the Westlake, Pebblebrook rivalry.
In 6A, 2021 runner up, Langston Hughes will have all new region opponents for the next three seasons as they join Region 5 with Newnan, who drops from 7A, Alexander, Douglas County, South Paulding, Paulding County, New Manchester and East Paulding. Also remaining in 6A but seeing all new region foes will be Rome, now in the company of Allatoona, Creekview, Woodstock, River Ridge and Etowah in Region 6.
