Four first place finishes for Woodland's Dominiq Northington as the Wolfpack sweeps region championship

On Thursday, the Georgia High School Association Class 4A Region 5 track and field championship resumed at Pace Academy with the finals of all running events. As the events got underway, the Woodland Wolfpack would come out of the blocks taking the first four events the at included sophomore Mattison Rowell, winning the girls 100 meter hurdles in a time of 15.70, which would qualify for a Georgia top 50 time. In the boys 110 meter Hurdles, Woodland's Dominiq Northington, who would finished the day with four first place finishes, would cross the finish line with a Georgia top 10 time of 14.37 for his first win of the day.



The Wolfpack would take both the girls and boys 100 meter dashes as Akira Brown would win the girls event in a time of 12.07, while Northington would return to the track to win the boys event in a Georgia top 50 time of 10.61. While the 1600 meter runs would go the way of Pace Academy, with Caroline Hood winning the girls run in a time of 5:05.75, a Georgia top 25 time, and Stockbridge's Kristhopher Strong would set a personal record with his Georgia top 50 finish in a time of 4:22.12, Woodland would come right back to take both girls (47.97) and boys (42.06) 4x100 meter relays as Northington would run the final leg of the boys team for his third first place finish of the day.


Northington would cap his day with his fourth first place finish as he would also win the boys 200 meter race in a time of 21.88. "Today, it was more about proving to myself, Northington said as he explained that he has been focused on bring his times down and that he has had to have a mindset of of understanding that "nobody out here can beat me but me," the Woodland senior said. In addition to Northington's performance, the Wolfpack would finish the day as boys and girls region champs with Pace Academy finishing second on the girls side and Lovett taking second on the girls side.
