Galloway Improves To 7-0 After Fighting Off A Scrappy Whitewater Team For 65-57 Win

On Saturday, the Whitewater Wildcats women’s basketball team hosted the annual Queens of the Hardwood Classic, which featured some of the top women’s high school basketball programs from around the Atlanta metro and surrounding areas. In the opening game, the Wildcats took on the Galloway Scots, who were coming off a win on Friday over Trinity Christian and playing their third game in five days. Despite it being a long week for the Scots, fatigue was not an issue for them early on as they closed out the first quarter with a 21-11 lead. The Wildcats would put up a much better effort in the second quarter, only being outscored 10-7, however they still trailed at the half 31-18. The Wildcats put up a fight throughout the night and even after trailing by as many as 20 points in the third quarter, they battled back to get within eight points later in the fourth quarter. Unfortunately for Whitewater, they were never able to overcome the early deficit and would fall to Galloway 65-57. The Scots got solid performances from Kyla Cain, Tianna Thompson, and Allison Hoffmann, who had the hot hand from 3-point land. Following the game, Galloway head coach, Kiesha Brown said that her team’s “resilience“ played a role in the team’s 7-0 start. She noted that it was a long week of competition for the Scots and that “the most important thing was to finish it out,” adding, “I know we were fatigued in the fourth but for us to have the mental capacity for us to be able to sustain our focus throughout that period was most important.” Watch highlights from the game below now!
