GHSA HS Football Week 12 Region Title Match Up Preview
This week, as the regular season comes to an end for Georgia High School Association football, there are quite a few match ups that will determine region champs and playoff seeding. Here are a few of tonight's big match ups to look forward to.
6A Region 5 - Carrollton will have to defeat Douglas County to claim the region title and No. 1 seed, however, if the Tigers win and Rome defeats Paulding County, Rome will win the title and take the No. 1 seed. Alexander vs South Paulding was cancelled due to COVID-19 concerns on the part of South Paulding so if Douglas County defeats Carrollton and Rome falls to Paulding County then the Tigers will win the region and get the No 1 seed.
5A Region 4 – Dutchtown will face Jones County and if Jones County gets the win, they will secure the title and No. 1 seed. However, if Dutchtown gets the win, it will create a three way tie between them, Jones County and Ola and the official GHSA tie breaker rules will be used to decide seeding for the playoffs.
7A Region 5 - Milton faces Cherokee with the winner taking the title and No. 1 seed. Now for Cherokee, if they lose and Roswell defeats Woodstock and Alpharetta defeats Etowah then we’ll have a three way tie. Cherokee has the tie breaker over Alpharetta, Roswell has the tie breaker over Cherokee, and Alpharetta has the tie breaker over Roswell so the official GHSA tie breaker rules will be used to determine seeding for positions 2, 3 and 4.
7A Region 2 - Newnan and East Coweta go head to head as neither team has lost in region play so the winner takes the title and No. 1 seed and the loser will get the No. 2 seed. This is the first time these long time rivals have battled one another for the region title.
7A Region 7 – Norcross looks to keep their perfect season in tact when they face Archer who is undefeated in region play. Both teams have a two game lead over second place Meadowcreek so the winner will get the title and No. 1 seed, while the loser will get the No. 2 seed.
5A Region 3 – Creekside and Woodward will battle for the title and No. 1 seed as neither team has lost in region play and with both two games ahead of third place Jonesboro, the loser will take the No. 2 seed. The storyline out of this region will be who gets the No. 4 seed if Jonesboro defeats Mundy’s Mill tonight. Should the Cardinals win, Mundy’s Mill, Banneker and Tri Cities will be in a three way tie. Since Tri Cities holds the tie breaker over Mundy’s Mill, Mundy’s Mill holds the tie breaker over Banneker, and Banneker holds the tie breaker over Tri Cities, there will either be a play in or GHSA tie breaker rules to decide who gets the fourth seed.
