GHSA Rules Valdosta Quarterback Jake Garcia Ineligible

On Tuesday, the Georgia High School Association announced that Valdosta quarterback and USC commit Jake Garcia would not be eligible to play the remainder of the 2020 season. According to reports, GHSA states that their ruling is based on Garcia's family not making a "bona fide move" to Valdosta, however, the Garcia family has plans to appeal the ruling. Garcia, who announced his transfer following California's delayed start of fall sports until December, played in the Wildcats' season opener, but missed the last two games due to injury. Red flags began to be raised in Garcia's transfer following a story published by ESPN in which his father stated that he and his wife, Garcia's mother, legally separated in order to meet the GHSA transfer requirements.
