Grady Dominates Villa Rica For 8-0 Win and Sole Possession Of First In Region Standings
As region play is starting to ramp up for teams throughout the Georgia High School Association, the Grady Knights and Villa Rica Wildcats met up on the pitch in a battle of the last remaining unbeaten teams in Class 5A Region 6. The Knights would waste no time taking control of the game as a Madeline Shaw goal would give them a 1-0 lead just under a minute into the first half. Grady would go on to add another four goals in the half to take a 5-0 lead at the break.
In the second half, the Knights would continue to control the field limiting the Wildcats to minimum shots on goal while adding three more goals of their own to pick up the 8-0 win. Shay Bowman would lead the Knights with two goals. Following the game, Grady head coach, Blair Barksdale said that it was very important for her players to establish control early as that was part of the discussion earlier in the week. "It was extremely important. That is what we had been preaching all week, is that they come out strong and they come out fast," Barksdale said. She went on to add that "they didn't let me down the whole game."
Barksdale said she wants the girls to continue to "keep the quick pace" as well as keeping possession and playing fast as she feels that will be there biggest advantage. With the win, the Knights remain unbeaten in the region standings and take sole possession of first place. Meanwhile, for Villa Rica, they drop to 4-1 in the region standings.
