Habersham Central; 'they'll continue to bring each day' as they continue summer workouts
As teams across Georgia got back to work this week as summer workouts got underway, many did so by taking part in the annual Corky Kell-Dave Hunter 7v7 Classic held at Georgia Tech on Tuesday and Wednesday. and one team in particular was the Habersham Central Raiders. "It's been good. I think our kids have been competing," Habersham Central head coach, Benji Harrison said of watching his players participate in Wednesday's Corky Kell event.
"They love coming out here competing ," Harrison added as he explained how the atmosphere of the 7v7 event on the Georgia Tech campus created excitement for his players. "It's been a good day," Harrison said. And like many teams throughout the state, the Raiders will return to more of a regular schedule next week and start to work towards the regular season, however they will have to do so with the expectation of players having to step up and fill voids.
"We lost some guys off last year's team. We have to replace some seniors that played a lot of snaps, but I like our young guys, I think they're a talented group," Harrison said, noting that they are returning a good amount of skill position players and look forward to them being difference makers. "Hopefully they'll be able to make up for some of the areas," in which the Raiders lack experience, including in the trenches.
"we've got a young group up front on the offensive line, but they're a good group, I think they just need some time to develop. So It's really just about becoming a team this summer," Harrison said of part of the Raiders preparations during summer workouts. "I think they'll continue to bring it each day at practice and get better," Harrison added. The Raiders will open the regular season on August 16 against Stephens County.
