Hapeville brings Lovett's perfection to an end in one of PSN's Notable Wins of the Week from Week 10
As region races tighten up and trams battle for a top four finish and Georgia High School Association football state championship state championship tournament berth, here are PSN’s Notable Wins of the Week from Week 10:
10. North Paulding def. Wheeler 22-14 – With Friday’s win, the Wolfpack was able to leap frog the Wildcats in the region standings as they move into the third place position and Wheeler dropping back to fourth. With Walton up next for North Paulding followed by their season finale with Marietta, they’ll need to win at least one of their final two and hope for another Wheeler loss in other to secure a playoff berth.
9. Dacula def. Mountain View 23-14 – The Falcons picked up a much needed bounce back win as they were able to keep their playoff hopes alive, maintaining the fourth place position, however, with Collins Hill up next followed by the regular season finale with Central Gwinnett, the Falcons will have the tough task of winning at least one of their next two in order to secure a playoff berth.
8. Coffee def. Houston County 14-0 – In what may be one the closet region races for a top four spot, Coffee’s win over the Houston County Bears has created a three-way tie for second place between the Trojans, Bears and Thomas County Central. Even more impressive with the Trojans’ win is the fact they held the Bears, a team which had averaged 48.1 points per game through seven games, scoreless for the first time all season.
7. Brunswick def. Lakeside-Evans 61-34 – With sole possession on the line, Brunswick picked up their seventh straight win while simultaneously ending Lakeside’s unbeaten streak. With South Effingham, who is looking for their first win of the season, next followed by Bradwell Institute, who has just two wins on the season, the Pirates can control their own destiny and secure the region championship with a wins in their final two games of the season.
6. Flowery Branch def. Walnut Grove 20-17 – Thanks to their win on Friday night, Flowery Branch was able to maintain the fourth place position as they look to earn a post-season berth. However, the Falcons face a tall task on Friday when they take on unbeaten North Oconee, who has won the region title for the past three seasons.
5. Luella def. Mt. Zion-Jonesboro 27-6 – In another tight race between the top four, the Luella Lions were able to stay in the hunt for a top two finish in the region standings as they picked up the win over Mt. Zion, who now sits a game back of the Lions and Stephenson, in the fourth position. The Lions will take on Stephenson next with the winner taking sole possession of second place, assuming region leader, Douglass picks up a win over Mt. Zion this week.
4. South Atlanta def. Miller Grove 28-7 – Thanks to their win over Miller Grove last week, the South Atlanta Hornets have set themselves up for a season finale showdown with Redan, with the winner taking sole possession of second place and securing the No. 2 seed from the region.
3. Parkview def. Duluth 27-14 – While the Parkview Panthers are in the midst of their first losing season since 2021, they were able to keep their playoff hopes alive with their win over Duluth as they are currently in a three-way tie with Duluth and Peachtree Ridge, who they will face next, for the fourth place position. A win over Peachtree Ridge would put the Panthers in the driver’s seat with their final game of the season against Meadowcreek, who has yet to win a game this season and has scored a combined 19 points through eight games.
2. Central-Carroll def. Harris County 23-14 – After returning to action from their bye week, the Central Lions got back in the win column as well as kept themselves in position for at least a second place finish, assuming they win their final two matchups against Griffin and Northside. Meanwhile, with the loss to Central, Harris County finds themselves on the outside looking in as they currently sit in fifth place in the standings but can still secure a playoff berth with a win this week and Northside loss to Central.
1. Hapeville Charter def. Lovett 25-15 – The Hapeville Hornets have consistently been one of the toughest teams in Georgia and they continue to prove why with their win over the Lovett Lions on Friday, handing them their first loss of the season. Meanwhile, after picking up their third consecutive win, Hapeville moves to 3-0 in region play and into a two-way tie for first in the region standings with Carver-Atlanta, who they will face in their regular season finale.
