Harrison claims No. 1 seed for state tournament after region championship win over Hillgrove

Harrison wins the GHSA 6A Region 3 tournament defeating Hillgrove 3-1

The Harrison Hoyas continue to reach their 2024 season goals fresh off the heels of claiming the number one seed for the Georgia High School Association Class 6A Region 3 tournament, the Hoyas have now claimed a number one seed for the GHSA 6A state championship tournament after their 3-1 win over Hillgrove on Saturday to claim the region championship.

"We are so excited, I'm super proud of these girls," Harrison head coach, Kristina Johnson said of the Hoyas' region championship win in her first year as head coach. "It's been a goal from the start of the season to win region this year so I'm really proud that they finished the first goal," Johnson said of the Harrison win, in which they would win sets one and two before dropping set three and then bounce back to claim set four.

"We did a lot of scouting and so we really worked on playing what we thought they were going to bring at us and so I'm very proud of these girls for knowing the plan and executing the plan," Johnson said of her players' efforts on Saturday. Now with the start of the state tournament a few days away, the Hoyas will begin to prepare for their opening round matchup with Heritage (Conyers) and look to achieve another goal.

"I just want to stay super aggressive, I want to be a little bit cleaner on our middle attack and then just kind of depress and I want to make a push for the elite eight," Johnson said of the Hoyas looking to achieve the next goal on their list.
